NSCDC arrest 6 suspects for illegal sales of New Naira notes in Port Harcourt
The Rivers State Nigeria Civil Defense, on Friday paraded six suspects arrested for hoarding and selling illicit Naira notes. State , Command Michael Ogar disclosed that the suspects were arrested following intelligence reports that some people were hoarding and selling New Naira notes in Port Harcourt. He said: “In the course of our investigations, investigators identified six persons who we suspected to be involved in the crime. We trailed them and arrested them.” Mr Michael said “Some time ago, I had warned Nigerians to desist from buying any currency note with large printing because they could not be used or exchanged at commercial banks”. He also advised them to deposit their money with commercial banks as they would get better rates than those offered by street dealers seeking high profits by reselling such bills.”
The state command said the suspects were arrested during a raid on a suspected money launderer inside Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State command disclosed that the suspects were arrested following intelligence reports that some people were hoarding and selling New Naira notes in Port Harcourt.
According to him, “The command have been able to arrest six people who were found with large amounts of New Naira notes on them after they had been found selling at the market. They are currently being detained at the police station where they will be arraigned before magistrate court next week.”
