Rivers State CP Orders Arrest of Any Vigilante Carrying Arms

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police Okon Effiong on Wednesday instructed the arrest of any vigilante groups found carrying arms. This state was made after the CP confirmed that operatives of the vigilante were seen operating in a way that is not pleasant to the public.

CP statement has generated a lot of reactions from the general public. CP made the order following an intelligent report that the vigilante groups now dress themselves in ways that scares the residents.

According to Okon Effiong, if the activities of the vigilante are not checked & controlled, Rivers State may be affected by the negative effects of the vigilante group.

With this latest development,some Rivers residents have kicked against the decision of the Rivers CP. Our popular talk show, “Pitakwa Talk Your Own” went out on the street, to hear from the people about what they think about the decision of the CP Okon Effiong, here is what the people are saying”

“The decision of the CP is uncalled for, I mean if you take arms away from the vigilante, what would they use as their defense. In this part of our area, the vigilante are our only hopes. The police don’t patrol at night anymore, only the vigilante groups does”.

“Another lady who narrates how she was rescued by the vigilante from the hands of criminals, who snatched her phone, said she was lucky enough that the vigilante groups were around the area, and chased after the criminals and recovered her phone. According to the lady, since the inception of the vigilante, we have had normalcy in Port Harcourt. Taking away arms from them, is never the right thing to do, but checking their activities, should be a welcome development”.
