Everton v Manchester City: Premier League – live
As forEverton, they stay fourth-bottom, a point ahead of Leeds, two in front of Leicester, and two behind Forest.
Full time: Everton 0-3 Manchester City
Hard going to begin with, easy in the end. City lead Arsenal by four with three to go, and look every inch champions. That’s 11 league wins in a row.
90+3 minBit of argy-bargy between Mina and Grealish, then Grealish runs across him and you’re waiting for the big agricultural, but it’s unforthcoming. City just keep the ball and they make the game look so easy.
90+2 minCity knock it about, already playing the next game in their minds. That is going to be very, very serious.
90+1 minAnother City change, Dias getting out of werk early on his birthday with Gomez replacing him.
90 minWe’ll have four added minutes.
90 minAndy Hinchcliffe gives player of the match to Gundogan and rightly so. He made a difficult afternoon into a gentle jaunt.
87 minNow McNeil crosses high, the ball sails miles from anyone, and Grealish, whose shorts look several sizes too small, is clattered by Doucoure.
87 minMcNeil drills a low cross, Akanji clumps clear.
85 min “Pep must see his core group as fully fit and ready for action coz I can’t imagine why he hasn’t introduced Lewis, Philips or Gomez and instead is risking Silva and Grealish,” says Rich C. “As for not resting Rodri! Well, I guess the bald-headed one knows.”
Yes, it’s fair to say he probably knows his squad, the game, and what it takes to win a title better than we do.
84 minTime elapses.
82 minWhich is to say it’s hard to see how Citydon’twin the treble. I don’t think Guardiola can find a way of galaxybraining a defeat to either Milan club, and as for the Cup Final, United look like a team who’ve already played their best football this season, and without Lisandro Martinez they’re missing their playmaker and best defender.
80 minThat being the case, I’m thinking about the next one. I can see how Madrid might beat City – they could perhaps outrun and out-strength them in midfield, if Ancelotti is prepared to leave out Kroos and Modric for Tchouameni and Cmavinga, which I doubt. Otherwise, they’ll hope to defend well and that their superstars play better than City’s. I can’t really see that, and had City had Haaland they’d have been clear last season before football and Real Madrid happened, so I’d expect a 3-1 home win or similar.
79 minLet’s be real: both sides know this game is over, and are playing accordingly.
78 minDouble change for City, Bernardo and Grealish for Gundogan and Haaland.
76 minDyche swaps Garner for Gray; Garner disappears straight down the tunnel, so is, presumably, knacked in some way.
74 minMahrez escapes down the right and swings over a cross that looks headed for Haaland, but Patterson does well to stay with him and hook away. Then, as the ball drops, Pickford hands-off Haaland in the back of the head and I’ve not a clue how that’s not a penalty.
73 minAkanji advances down the left and thrashes a cross beyond everyone. I’m surprised Guardiola hasn’t made changes yet, but I guess he’s preserving the players he wants preserved. Still, I can’t imagine he wants Rodri and Haaland out there much longer.
71 minThere’s a lack of finesse and imagination about this Everton side. I’m sure, if they stay up, Dyche will keep them up again next season, but how they get good I’ve not a clue given FFP, unreliable owners and a new ground being built.
70 minIn the afternoon’s second game, Arsenal take on Brighton. Follow the buildup here:
68 minAnother good delivery, Mina up ahead of Onana only to half-head into the ground and over.
67 minAnd this time, Tarkowski connects beautifully, monstering a header against the bar and over!
65 minMcNeil picks up the ball outside the box and has options, but decides he’s best whacking against the nearest defender, earning a corner.
64 minI feel bad, but this photo of Pickford made me laugh.
62 minEverton are getting on the ball now, without intimating any kind of danger.
62 minThe women’s FA Cup final is goalless at half-time, but from what I’ve seen it’s a very decent game.
60 minRodri finds Foden, who seems to have recovered, and he clips over an inviting cross for Haaland, who tries a scissors-kick that endangers small animals throughout the L4 area but sends it dribbling wide before a defenders clears.
59 min“If Man City are awarded a penalty, I really hope Gundogan takes it,” offers Matt Dony, remembering that he missed one for his hat-trick last term when allowed to take it by Haaland – who received a going-over from his manger as a consequence.
58 minI think Everton are playing a back five now, my assumption that Dyche is trying to avoid a hurting.
57 minGarner slides a decent ball through to Maupay and for a moment it looks like he’s a shooting chance. But City quickly close the door, and Everton have done nowt this half; as I type, McNeil leathers a cross beyond the back post.
53 minGundogan utilised a little more power than this, but they’re not dissimilar.
GOAL! Everton 0-3 Manchester City (Gundogan 51)
It’s another beauty! Silky Ilkay caresses over the wall with the side of his foot and inside the near post! Think Gary McAllister for Leeds against Liverpool (I think). What a player!
48 minPoor header from Holgate allowing Alvarez spreads to Foden, who skates by Garner only to shoved over while running at full pelt. Garner is booked while Foden stays down – his studs caught in the turf a little, so when he knee moved his foot didn’t, and the former is giving hisagita. Hr seems OK though, and City have a free-kick 22 yards out, just left of the D.
47 minEverton will also know if they can keep the score at 2-0 for a bit, if they can somehow scrounge a livener, this match isn’t over.
46 minCurrently, Everton have a goal difference of -23, versus -25 for Leeds. So they need to be careful to avoid a kicking here, because it might cost them more than a bit of minor embarrassment.
46 minWe go again…
Half-time change:Dyche sends on Maupay for Calvert-Lewin. I’d be surprised were that tactical, and what a shame it is that he’s finding it so hard to stay fit.
Half-time: Everton 0-2 Manchester City
Looking at the score doesn’t tell you the story of the half but does tell you the story of the teams. Everton are huffing and puffing, while City are purring.
45+1 minMahrez skirts around the right and drills a low cross that Mina somehow gets rid of from almost on the goalline. That looked a lot like 0-3.
45 minWe’ll have two added minutes.
45 minYoane Wissa has made it Brentford 2-0 West Ham.
44 min “It looks like James Garner is now a regular for Sean Dyche,” emails Robert Hisnay. “Appears to me as if Erik ten Hag was a little hasty in jettisoning him.”
I’m not sure about that. I don’t think he’s physical enough to play in Ten Hag’s team, but he may be good enough to have a Premier-League career.
43 minI meant to say, just after the goal Mina and Haaland were shoving each other a bit, and they’re now jawing away. One to keep an eye on, because I doubt either is for retreating.
42 minIlkay Gundogan though, what a player. There aren’t many who can play every midfield role, and with such style and intelligence. He makes me sick.
40 minLooking at the replay, that leap from Haaland was an absolute monster. But it was the run from Foden and the cross from Gundogan that made it happen.
GOAL! Everton 0-2 Manchester City (Haaland 39)
Er yeah, ta ra. Foden makes a run down the left, taking Patterson with him, Gundogan picks up possession when the ball comes backwards, curves a gorgeous cross onto the prodigious brow of Haaland, and he superhumans a header from whence it came, Pickford moving towards the far post and wrongfooted.
WHAT A GOAL! Everton 0-1 Manchester City (Gundogan 37)
He’s done it again and at the same time has never done it before! Mahrez curls a cross towards Gundogan who leaps, realises in mid-air he might’ve misjudged it, so controls on his right thigh, then on the half-turn, back to goal, flicks with his right foot around the corner and into the corner! Amazing amazing behaviour!
36 minWe’re warming up now, Rodri cutting across Gueye to lash a low shot from 20 that Pickford sees early and well, saving down by his near post.
35 minTarkowsi is so good at making first contact from corners and he heads this one down to the far post, where Holgate lurks! But with the ball skipping off the turf, he can’t curl his foot around it as it races across him, spooning over the top fro, three yards.
34 minEverton fancy this now! Garner picks up a loose header from Walker and finds Calvert-Lewin, who nips inside Laporte to open a shooting lane. But as soon as he looks dangerous, Walker bustles over to redeem his error at cost of a corner.
32 minEverton get Calvert-Lewin running through the centre-circle but with none of his mates anywhere near him he checks, and Mahrez obliges by giving him the foul he was after.
31 minCity win a corner down the right, it goes shot to Foden – we’re seeing this a lot currently – but his low shot is easily blocked. City look bereft of ideas and intensity.
30 minYup, as soon as I hit save we’re shown Haaland’s touch map, featuring just two dots. He will not even care a single iota.
29 minHaaland has barely had a kick yet. City have struggled to get their wingers one-on-one or in space, and they’re not playing into his feet, so Everton are keeping them pretty quiet. I’d not be surprised to see changes at the break.
27 minFoden slows Patterson up then injects some pace, diddlinp him on the outside before finding for Gundogan, who wins aa corner off Tarkowski. Incredibly, the ball goes along the by-line – what kind of marking is that? – but when it’s sent to Mahrez on the edge, he sweeps his shot over the top.
26 minDiaz heads a long free-kick from Garner behind, then Ederson scoops the corner downfield from under the bar. This is pretty even really.
24 min “Imagine being an actual adult man who gets on the way Mina did there?” says Samuel Campbell. “Absolutely embarrassing but no one in authority seems to want to punish players for this blatant cheating so it will keep happening. Really puts me off watching football at the top level.”
Not long ago, it was a big issue in the game, but the VAR farrago means no one seems that bothered now. I guess I’m more bothered about lots of other stuff too – timewasting, timekeeping, wild fouls – but yes, Mina was very silly.
23 minI can’t remember the last time I saw City do so little of note in half a half.
22 minElsewhere, Brentford have taken the lead against West Ham through Mbuemo.
22 min…and Alvarez’s cross floats over the bar.
21 minCity win a corner down the left…
17 minMahrez collects a ball that looked to be running out of play, skins McNeil on the outside and crosses beyond the back post. So City retrieve possession, Foden crossing and Akanji bumping on; for a second, it looked like Gundogan can swivel and shoot from close range. But Tarkowski is wise to the ruse and pokes in a foot to clear.
16 minMina spends some time on the ground after a penalty-area kerfuffle, though it’s not clear what hurt him; perhaps Haaland glanced at him aggressively. But he’s up now and City are passing the ball, Everton narrow then shuffling across when they have to.
14 min “Rodri is an interesting one,” says Jack Roe. “Maybe it’s because of his position but he does seem the latest in a line of Pep players who, unlike their boss, seem to despise people enjoying playing football. I think Pep’s understanding of the need for a complete bastard in *Our LeagueTM* often gets forgotten when people rattle off his many many (many) talents, Dias, Fernandinho, Kyle Walker etc.”
Yup, he’s aware that to play football, you need some anti-football too, though i do think his preference for choir-boy personalities has cost him in Europe.
13 minCity haven’t got their rhythm and tempo going yet, enjoying as much possession as ever but nothing telling or incisive.
10 min“Two sides of the Premiership story this year,” writes Justin Kavanagh. “For Everton it’s the hope that kills; for Arsenal, it was the hype.”
Ha, that’s a little harsh as they’ve got a lot of points, but I do think overconfidence cost them in those two killing draws against Liverpool and West Ham.
7 minThey cannot, but City only hald-clear, then Rodri dithers on the ball and Iwobi steps in, Ederson botches a clearance, and though nothing comes of it, it gets the crowd going.
5 minA poor backpass from Holgate forces Tarkowski to insert body between Haaland and ball – rather him than me – but he handles the situation well. ThenDoucoure drives forward, feeds McNeil outside him, and his cross is blocked behind for a corner. Can Everton make it count?
4 minCity knock it around nicely, the Laporte lofts a pass in behind, to no one. Then Pickford kicks long and Doucoure wins possession in midfield, but his slide through seeking Calvert-Lewin is too strong. Everton won’t mind how this has started because they’ve not really been threatened.
3 minAkanji is filing the Stones role, moving into midfield; Everton should target the space he leaves, if they can get enough of the ball to make things happen.
1 minAway we go!
Manchester City can open up a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League when they travel to Everton.
Chelsea Replaces Head Coach
FORMER TOTTENHAM BOSS MAURICIO POCHETTINO AGREES DEAL TO REPLACE FRANK LAMPARD AS CHELSEA MANAGER – REPORTS
Stories late on Saturday night emerged to suggest that Chelsea have finally found a replacement for Graham Potter after sacking their manager in April. The club have reportedly agreed a deal for former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino to take over at Stamford Bridge, where he will replace interim boss Frank Lampard, who has struggled.
Mauricio Pochettino has agreed a deal to take over as manager at Chelsea, according to multiple reports.
The Argentine has been linked with the vacancy at Stamford Bridge since Graham Potter was sacked in April.
Lampard lost his first six matches in charge in his second spell, and on Saturday the club slumped to a disappointing 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Reports suggest that while a deal is agreed, nothing is yet official, with nothing signed.
Pochettino has been without a job after leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer after struggling in Europe with the French team.

The former Tottenham, Southampton and Espanyol manager was one of several names linked with the vacancy, and now appears to have beaten Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann and others to the appointment.
The 51-year-old coach will have a tough task over the summer as he looks to reshape a squad that had £600 million spent on it over the year, but remain rooted in mid-table.
The club need a main striker to lead the line, but they also will need to trim their squad while raising funds, in order to meet Financial Fair Play regulations in the coming years.
Another problem is the potential exit of Mason Mount, who is out of contract next summer and is heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer as Jurgen Klopp attempts a rebuild of his own.
Pochettino started his managerial career with Espanyol in 2009 before quickly moving on to Southampton, and then Tottenham. He took the club to a Champions League final in 2019 – losing to Liverpool – and was unable to win a trophy for the North London side.
Everton V Manchester City Kicks Off By 14:00PM
Manchester City can open up a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League when they travel to Everton.
The game at Goodison Park falls between the two leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, which is finely poised at 1-1 after the first leg in the Bernabeu.
With Arsenal not in action against Brighton until later on Sunday, City can tighten their grip on the title with a win on Merseyside.
Everton thrashed Brighton 5-1 last weekend but they are still just one point above the relegation zone and in real danger at the bottom.
