11:20 p.m. END OF THE FOURTH QUARTER

LeBron fires up a prayer from three and it goes unanswered. The Nuggets will take a 1-0 lead in the series after a 132-126 win.

11:20 p.m. — Austin Reaves gets into the paint and dishes off a wayward pass to LeBron James who carelessly handles the ball in front of Jokic who bats it away. Turnover L.A.! The Lakers need to foul and do. Jokic goes to the line and splits them. The score now sits at 132-126 with 10.9 seconds remaining.

11:18 p.m. — Clutch free throws by Jokic puts the Nuggets’ lead back out to five.

11:17 p.m. — Reaves answers right back with a triple! This has turned into a game of tennis. Back-and-forth scoring. 129-126.

11:13 p.m. — Jokic is scoreless so far this quarter!

11:08 p.m. — Rui Hachimura has switched onto Jokic and the Serbian star has gone cold. He’s putting the ball on the floor less and the creativity has drained from his game.

A MASSIVE three by Reaves trims this thing to three and we have a game on our hands!

11:05 p.m. — A soft all on Caldwell-Pope send Reaves to line, he makes both and the difference is down to just seven.

11:01 p.m. — Caldwell-Pope and Schroder trade threes as this game makes its way into winning time with the Nuggets up by 12. Plenty of time for L.A.

10:53 p.m. — A smart coaches challenge by Michael Malone. An off-the-ball collision between Jamal Murray and Schroder was called on Murray, his fifth. Malone is hoping the foul is reallocated to Jokic or waved away entirely. The strategy works and the personal foul is assessed to Jokic instead, his third.

10:50 p.m. — Jamal Murray fadeaway! Nuggets push the lead back out 118-104.

10:25 p.m. — An Austin Reaves three gives this game a renewed enthusiasm and now a LeBron pass to Rui Hachimura for the stuff brings the Nuggets’ lead to single-figures.

10:25 p.m. START OF THE FOURTH QUARTER

LeBron James bullies his way to the hoop for the and-one. The three-point shot hasn’t been there for L.A. If they are going to get back in this thing they need to slow things down in the post.

10:25 p.m. END OF THE THIRD QUARTER — Of course it goes down! Davis just stares at Jokic after that make. The Joker heaves it up at the buzzer and the Nuggets take a 106-92 lead into the last. The only positive for the Lakers is the fact they won their first quarter of the game: 38-34. The lead is a manageable 14 points, but it feels like a lot more.

10:10 p.m. — A Jokic three extends the Nuggets’ lead to 21 points. What’s amazing is the fact that Jokic’s direct opponent Anthony Davis has 26, but that tally feels invisible in comparison.

10:10 p.m. — Los Angeles are scoring, but they’re leaking points the other way making it impossible to make any dent in the Denver lead. They trail 90-70 and look physically and psychologically drained.

10:05 p.m. START OF THE THIRD QUARTER

Jamal Murray starts the term with back-to-back threes and looks like more of the same from the Nuggets.

9:52 p.m. END OF THE FIRST HALF —

The Nuggets lead by 18 points at the half. They’re shooting 51% from the field. They lead the rebound count 36-13. It all stems from Nikola Jokic who is proving unstoppable with 19 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis look exhausted making their way to the locker room. Davis leads the Lakers with 18 points. James has been serviceable with 11 points, eight rebounds and three assist – but the problem is the Lakers’ role players.

In past series there’s been a surprising secondary star for L.A., but tonight there’s been nothing outside of their big two.

Nuggets 72 | Lakers 54

9:47 p.m. — Lakers defenders are powerless trying to fight through Jokic’s hand offs. He’s catching the ball then handing it off to a teammate and defenders cannot navigate around his mammoth frame. Jamal Murray takes advantage of this, making two pullups to finish the half with 17 points.

9:28 p.m. — Los Angeles gets called for a delay of game as Jokic jumps up off the bench, Anthony Davis mirrors his return to the game.

9:22 p.m. START OF THE SECOND QUARTER — Good defence leads to better offence for the Nuggets. Bruce Brown finishes off two fast break layups and the Nuggets jump out to 44-27 lead on the strength of controlling the pace of play. Brown leads all scorers with 11 points.

9:17 p.m. END OF THE FIRST QUARTER — Jokic has dominated every facet of the game. He has 8 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. LeBron has been the Lakers’ best so far. James has eight points and four rebounds.

The big problem for L.A. is the 22-6 rebounding differential and the gap in bench points. Denver’s Bruce Brown and co. have 16 points compared the Lakers’ backups who’ve managed just two points.

Nuggets 37 | Lakers 25

9:09 p.m. — Two steadying baskets by LeBron James and a block on Bruce Brown slows the game down and brings the Nuggets’ lead into focus for L.A. 34-23.
