Rivers Labour Party Sues 27 Defected Lawmakers

The Labour Party in Rivers State has joined Civil Society Organisations to sue twenty-seven state lawmakers for defecting to the APC. The Spokesperson of the party, Gogo Wellington, made this known to our correspondent. Mr. Wellington says the decision follows the alleged refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a by-election to fill the vacant seats resulting from the lawmakers’ defection.

Mr. Wellington said the Labour Party is also asking the court to interpret some sections of the constitution bothering on defection. 

Recall that 27 PDP lawmakers defected to the APC on December 11, 2023, citing division within the PDP as the reason for their defection.
