EFCC Confirms Arresting Bobrisky Over Naira Abuse Says They Will Soon Be Charged To Court

Bobrisky, the Nigerian internet personality known for his controversial cross-dressing, has been convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos for abusing the naira. The court, presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, has scheduled the final verdict for today, April 9, 2024. Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, pleaded guilty to four counts related to the abuse of the naira, with the court dismissing the last two counts concerning alleged money laundering.

The charges stem from a video showing Bobrisky spraying new naira notes at a movie premiere, an act considered a violation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007. The specific section of the act cited in the case states that a person who tampers with a coin or note issued by the Bank is guilty of an offense and shall be liable for imprisonment for a term not less than six months or a fine not less than N50,000, or both.

Bobrisky’s case has attracted significant attention due to his social media presence and the public nature of his actions. The court’s decision today will mark a critical point in the legal proceedings against him.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has set a precedent by holding Bobrisky accountable for his actions, sending a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated. This case serves as a reminder to all citizens of the importance of respecting the laws and regulations governing the use of the country’s currency.
