Wike Loyalist; Zacchaeus Adangor Rejects Gov Fubara’s Redeployment Resigns From The Rivers State Executive Council
In a dramatic turn of events, Zacchaeus Adangor, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State, has rejected his redeployment to a new ministry and subsequently resigned from the Rivers State Executive Council. This surprising move comes in the wake of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to reshuffle the state cabinet, affecting Adangor and the Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu.
Adangor, who has served as the Attorney General under Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration, expressed his decision to resign for “personal reasons” in a letter dated December 14, 2023. In his statement, he thanked Governor Fubara for the opportunity and privilege to serve in his administration, highlighting the personal principles that guided his decision to step down. This development adds another layer to the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
The recent reshuffling and Adangor’s subsequent resignation are set against a backdrop of political strife between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. These tensions have been evident in the state’s political landscape, with the State House of Assembly witnessing a significant division. A five-member faction loyal to Governor Fubara passed the 2024 budget proposal, while another faction, led by Martin Amaewhule and loyal to Wike, attempted an impeachment process against Governor Fubara.
This complex situation was further exacerbated by the demolition of the State House of Assembly complex, a move that has deepened the rift between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike. It remains to be seen how these events will influence the political trajectory of Rivers State and the relationship between Governor Fubara and his predecessor.
