Cross Rivers State Raises Civil Servants Minimum Wage To N40000

Cross Rivers State Governor Bassey Otu has announced a significant increase in the minimum wage for civil servants in the state. The new minimum wage has been set at ₦40,000, a move that has been widely celebrated by workers across the state. This decision was made public during the Workers’ Day celebration at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

Governor Otu emphasized that this wage increase aligns with the current economic realities rather than mere sentiments. He highlighted the state’s financial challenges, including low Statutory Federal Allocation and an unfavorable GDP to Debt servicing ratio. Despite these challenges, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its workforce.

The governor also addressed the issue of the backlog of gratuity, dating back to 2014. He assured retired workers that the government is making arrangements for the staggered payment of outstanding gratuity. This initiative is part of the broader effort to improve the living conditions of workers in Cross Rivers State.

Governor Otu’s announcement was met with positive reactions from various quarters. It represents a major step forward in the state’s efforts to enhance the welfare of its workforce and address the economic challenges faced by its citizens.
