Emily Blunt, the acclaimed British actress known for her roles in films like “The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Adjustment Bureau,” and “A Quiet Place,” has recently shared candid insights into the less glamorous aspects of her profession. During an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” in April 2024, Blunt opened up about her experiences with on-screen kissing scenes, revealing that some of these experiences have been less than pleasant.
When asked by Howard Stern if she had ever wanted to throw up after kissing one of her leading men, Blunt admitted, “Absolutely. Absolutely. I wouldn’t say it’s sort of extreme loathing, but I’ve definitely not enjoyed some of it.” She went on to explain that while she has had chemistry with some actors she didn’t have a good time working with, she has found ways to work around this issue.
Blunt described how she has learned to build chemistry with her co-stars, even when there is no natural rapport. She tries to find something she loves about them or their character and leans into that. Despite these challenges, she also mentioned some actors she enjoyed working with, such as Dwayne Johnson, Robert Downey Jr, Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, and Cillian Murphy.
This candid discussion comes in the wake of another revelation from her “The Devil Wears Prada” co-star, Anne Hathaway, who spoke about a “gross” time in her career when casting agents expected
When Stern, 70, came right out and asked her, “Who?” Blunt responded simply, “I’m not gonna tell you.”
“I have had chemistry with people who… I have not had a good time working with them,” she said, still refusing to reveal any names.
“Sometimes it’s a strange thing. Sometimes you could have a rapport that’s really effortless, but it doesn’t translate onscreen,” she said, speaking of the ways she tries to establish chemistry. “Chemistry is this strange thing. It’s an ethereal thing that you can’t really bottle up and buy or sell. It’s like there or it’s not.”
“It’s just easier when you have a natural rapport with someone,” she added.
