Tony Okocha has indeed called for the Rivers State House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. As the chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okocha made this announcement during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on May 7, 2024. He highlighted that Governor Fubara has insulted the sensibility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had previously intervened to resolve the state’s protracted crisis, and thus the impeachment process is necessary.

This call to action by Okocha is part of a larger political dispute within the state, particularly involving issues with Governor Fubara’s relationship with his political godfather and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The political tension escalated further when Governor Fubara addressed his supporters, stating that he had not committed any impeachable offenses. Despite this, the Assembly has already begun the impeachment process by serving Governor Fubara with an impeachment notice.

It’s crucial to note that this situation is still developing, and the outcome of these proceedings will depend on the actions of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the responses from Governor Fubara and his supporters.
