EFCC Arrests 26 Suspected Internet Fraudsters In Port Harcourt

In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 26 suspected internet fraudsters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. These arrests were part of a concerted effort by the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Command to combat internet-related crimes, which have been a growing concern in the region.

The suspects were apprehended on May 6 and May 9, 2024, at the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) and Choba axes of Port Harcourt. The operation was based on credible intelligence regarding their alleged involvement in internet-related activities. Items recovered from the suspects include different brands of phones, laptops, and six exotic cars, according to a statement from the EFCC.

The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. This move underscores the EFCC’s commitment to combating cybercrime and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.

Internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo,” has been a persistent issue in Nigeria, with the EFCC actively pursuing and arresting individuals suspected of engaging in such activities. The recent arrests in Port Harcourt are part of the agency’s broader efforts to curb cybercrime and promote a safer digital environment for all.
