Police reportedly arrests singer Portable over G-Wagon debt

Singer Portable, known for his controversial persona, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command over an alleged refusal to settle a debt he incurred when purchasing a G-Wagon. The vehicle, valued at N27 million, was purchased from a car dealer, but Portable only paid N13 million upfront. He was supposed to pay the remaining N14 million but has failed to do so, despite repeated requests from the car dealer.

When Portable was confronted about the outstanding balance, he reportedly claimed that the vehicle was in poor condition, which led to his reluctance to pay the rest of the money. The car dealer, having exhausted all options for a peaceful resolution, reported the matter to the police, leading to Portable’s arrest.

This incident has garnered significant attention on social media platforms and news outlets, highlighting the importance of contractual obligations and legal recourse in commercial transactions. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Portable’s arrest, stating that the singer was apprehended for defaulting on his G-Wagon payment.

This isn’t the first time Portable has been in the news for controversial reasons. In 2022, he was disqualified from the Headies Award for threatening to kill his co-nominees. The Headies Awards committee released a statement saying, “We regret to announce that numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, and the incessant negative attention that Mr. Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police in recent times, the organizers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr. Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards.”
