Give Tinubu Time, One Year is Not Enough to Judge Tinubu’s Gov’t Say Kukah

In a recent visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese and Founder of the Kukah Centre, Reverend Matthew Kukah, has stated that one year is not enough to pass judgment on the Tinubu administration. This statement was made during a press briefing after his meeting with the President on May 15, 2024.

Kukah emphasized the need for better communication from the government to its citizens. He highlighted that while the administration is working on solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the country, Nigerians need to get a sense of how soon they can expect relief. He stressed the importance of the government ensuring better living conditions and security for its citizens.

“My argument has always been that the government needs to very quickly improve the quality of communication so that Nigerians can at least get a sense of how long is it going to be before food is ready,” said Kukah.

Despite acknowledging the various levels of pain and hardship experienced by Nigerians, which he described as unintended consequences of certain policy decisions, Kukah expressed hope that these policies could be amended for the welfare of the people. He also noted that while one year may not be enough to assess the president, the government should strive to improve the quality of communication to Nigerians.

Kukah’s visit to the President was also in connection with a planned conference on national cohesion being organized by the Kukah Centre. He expressed his desire for President Tinubu to be in attendance, addressing the theme of national cohesion.

In conclusion, Kukah’s message to the public is clear: give the Tinubu administration time, as one year is not enough to judge its performance. The government, in turn, should focus on improving its communication and working towards the welfare and security of its citizens.
