Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea have indeed embarked on different pathways. After a season together, both parties mutually agreed to part ways, marking the end of Pochettino’s tenure as the head coach of Chelsea. This decision was announced on May 21, 2024, just two days after the end of the Premier League season. Pochettino, the 52-year-old Argentine, had joined Chelsea in July 2023 and guided the club to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League. Despite the strong end to the season, including winning the final five games, the decision for Pochettino to leave was mutually agreed upon.

In his parting statement, Pochettino expressed gratitude to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of the club’s history. He highlighted the club’s well-positioned state to continue moving forward in the Premier League and Europe. This parting, by mutual consent, came after a season where Chelsea invested significantly in new signings, many of whom were under the age of 25, and also saw the departure of several senior members of the dressing room.

The decision for Pochettino to leave was a result of a review conducted by Chelsea’s sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who will now search for the fourth full-time manager under the current ownership since their takeover in 2022. Despite the challenges faced during the season, including a lengthy injury list and a significant investment in playing staff, Pochettino managed to steady the team over recent weeks, guiding Chelsea to European qualification for next season.
