Police arrest pastor over refusal to refund member 900,000
A church member mistakenly transferred N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) to his pastor’s account instead of the intended N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira). This financial mishap was discovered by the member who then promptly contacted the pastor, seeking a refund for the excess N900,000 (Nine Hundred Thousand Naira).
The pastor, however, refused to return the money, claiming it was a “divine provision” and therefore belonged to God. This refusal led to a rather unexpected turn of events. The frustrated church member, feeling wronged and desperate for his money, decided to involve the authorities.
Armed with the support of the Nigerian Police Force, specifically officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department, the member confronted the pastor. A video of this confrontation went viral on social media, showing the police officers at the pastor’s doorstep.
The pastor was arrested for his refusal to refund the excess donation. The incident sparked a debate online, with many questioning the pastor’s actions and his interpretation of divine intervention. Some saw the pastor’s refusal as a form of financial exploitation, while others believed that the member’s decision to involve the police was a breach of trust and an overreaction.
This peculiar incident serves as a reminder of the complexities of human nature, the power of social media, and the unexpected ways in which faith and finance can intersect. It also highlights the importance of understanding and respecting the boundaries of personal responsibility and legal obligation, even in matters of the divine.
