Be Independent, Gov Fubara Charges New Rivers State High Court Judge

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has sworn in Sir Dirialakeibama Jumbo Stephens, Esq., as a new High Court Judge of the state. The ceremony took place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt. During the event, Governor Fubara charged the new judge to be independent and to uphold justice without bias. He emphasized the importance of defending the interests of Rivers State, stating, “Rivers belongs to all of us, defend it.”

The appointment of Sir Dirialakeibama Jumbo Stephens, Esq. to the position of a High Court Judge had been delayed for eight years during the previous administration, allegedly due to his refusal to bow to certain pressures. Governor Fubara, however, assured the new judge that he would not be asked to do what is wrong but would be required to dispense justice and stand on the side of truth always.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Attorney-General of the state, the Chief Judge, and other top government officials. The new judge’s swearing-in marks a significant step in the state’s judicial system, with expectations that he will contribute to the administration of justice and the upholding of the rule of law in Rivers State.
