Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has cancelled the 10,000 jobs in the State Civil Service approved by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, citing concerns over the recruitment process’s transparency and political patronage. The governor announced this during an interactive session with stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Fubara criticized the previous recruitment process, alleging that many beneficiaries were appointed based on political patronage rather than merit. He highlighted concerns about the age of some appointees, stating that a significant portion were over-aged, hindering their ability to serve effectively.
