Christina Applegate admits ‘I don’t enjoy living’ as she faces ‘real depression’ amid ongoing battle with MS

Christina Applegate, known for her roles in “Married… with Children” and “Dead to Me,” has opened up about her struggles with depression due to her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS). In a candid discussion on her podcast “MeSsy,” which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate revealed that she is currently experiencing a period of “real depression.” She described this as a “fuck-it-all depression” that is “scaring” her, as it feels “really fatalistic.”
The actress was diagnosed with MS in 2021 and has since been open about her journey with the disease. MS is a chronic condition that affects the central nervous system and is believed to be an autoimmune disorder. It impacts nearly a million people in the U.S., according to a 2019 study.
Applegate has been candid about the physical and emotional toll of MS. She has spoken about the difficulty of getting up and doing things every day because of the pain, and she has also shared that she has gained 40 pounds and now needs a cane to walk. She has also discussed the impact of MS on her mental health, revealing that she has avoided therapy since her diagnosis because she is afraid of not being able to stop crying.
Despite these challenges, Applegate has found support in her friend and co-host, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS. Sigler has been a source of encouragement, urging Applegate to allow herself to be vulnerable and to feel her emotions.
Applegate’s openness about her struggles with MS and depression is a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health support for those living with chronic illnesses. Her journey highlights the need for more conversations and resources to support individuals and their families as they navigate the challenges of living with MS and other chronic conditions.
