Nigeria Kelechi Leaves Leicester City As Free Agent

Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho has left Leicester City as a free agent, as confirmed by the club on June 7, 2024. The Super Eagles forward, popularly known as Senior Man, joined Leicester City from Manchester City in August 2017. During his time with the Foxes, Iheanacho made 232 appearances and scored 61 goals, including the winner in the FA Community Shield final against his former club in August 2021.

Leicester City expressed their gratitude to Iheanacho for his contributions to the club, especially in helping them secure promotion back to the Premier League after a season in the Championship. Iheanacho’s departure comes after the expiration of his contract, and he is now free to explore new opportunities.

The club also announced the departures of Marc Albrighton and Dennis Praet as free agents. Albrighton, a key player in Leicester City’s Premier League title-winning campaign in 2016, made 313 appearances for the club over a decade. Praet, who joined from Sampdoria in 2019, made 107 appearances for the Foxes.

The departures of these players come at a time when Leicester City is undergoing a managerial change, with Enzo Maresca leaving to become the new head coach at Chelsea. The Foxes are currently seeking a new manager to lead them in the upcoming season.
