Speculated 105,000 Minimum Wage is False Says Gov Uzodimma

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has clarified that the speculated N105,000 minimum wage is false. The clarification comes amid reports suggesting that the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, had proposed this figure to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Governor Uzodimma, who is the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, emphasized that the governors are considering options between N60,000 and N70,000 as a sustainable minimum wage. The governors’ position aligns with the view that states will only agree to a minimum wage that is affordable and sustainable.

The Presidency has also denied the reports, stating that the Minister of Finance has not proposed a N105,000 minimum wage. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the reports as false.

Governor Uzodimma has been proactive in addressing the economic challenges faced by workers in Imo State. He recently announced an increase in the minimum wage to N40,000, along with various palliatives to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage is expected to arrive at a figure by Friday.
