Kenyaβs President Ruto Signs Bill To Slash Budget
President William Ruto of Kenya recently signed into law the Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2024 and the Division of Revenue Bill 2024 at State House in Nairobi. The Supplementary Appropriation Bill is intended to release resources for boosting economic performance and improving service delivery. It provides more resources for development, university and secondary education.
Importantly, the Bill reduces the overall budget by Sh132 billion, signaling the government’s commitment to reducing deficits and debt accumulation. This move is part of President Ruto’s efforts to streamline government spending and focus on key priority areas.
The Division of Revenue Bill 2024 was sponsored by the Chairperson Budget and Appropriations Committee Ndindi Nyoro. It seeks to provide for the sharing of revenue raised nationally between the national government and county governments for the Financial Year 2024/25.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of these bills in reducing government expenditure and ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently to areas that will have the greatest impact on the Kenyan people.
