Tom Heaton Joins England 2024 Squad

Tom Heaton, the 38-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper, has been called up to join England’s Euro 2024 squad as a training goalkeeper. He will not be eligible to play in the tournament but will support the first-choice goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, and the other goalkeepers, Aaron Ramsdale and Dean Henderson, throughout England’s time in Germany.

Heaton expressed his excitement and honor at receiving the call from England manager Gareth Southgate, stating, “To get the call to go to a major tournament, to help in any way I can and pass on my experience, is a proud moment.” He also mentioned his eagerness to join the group and contribute to the positive environment that Southgate aims to create.

The veteran goalkeeper has previously represented England three times, earning his caps between 2016 and 2017. He was also part of the squads for Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League finals. Heaton’s experience at the international level, along with his familiarity with the national team setup, will be valuable assets to the England squad as they prepare for the tournament.

Heaton’s inclusion in the training squad is seen as a positive move by Southgate, who highlighted the importance of having experienced players like Heaton to support the team both on and off the field. The England manager expressed his gratitude to Manchester United for their support in making Heaton’s participation possible.

With the Euro 2024 tournament set to begin soon, Heaton’s presence in the training camp will undoubtedly provide a boost to the team’s preparations as they aim to make a strong showing in Germany.
