Apple Users to be Banned From X, If They Integrate OpenAI Says Musk
According to a series of posts on the social network X, Elon Musk has threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies if Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level. Musk expressed concerns about the security implications of such a move, calling it an “unacceptable security violation.” He also criticized Apple for not being able to create its own AI, suggesting that Apple would not be able to ensure the protection of user data once handed over to OpenAI.
In response to Apple’s announcement that it will be integrating its new AI software, Apple Intelligence, across its devices and separately announcing a partnership with OpenAI, Musk said that if Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, Apple devices will be banned at his companies. Visitors to his companies will have to store their Apple devices in a Faraday cage, which blocks electromagnetic transmissions.
Musk also took digs at Apple, saying that the company could not make its own AI and had “no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI.” Apple has said that “protections are built in for users who access ChatGPT,” and that Apple Intelligence is designed to protect user privacy.
The integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT with Apple’s Siri will be available for free without an account in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year. Users can also choose to connect their ChatGPT account, which means their data preferences will apply under ChatGPT’s policies.
It’s worth noting that Apple has not responded to Musk’s comments, and it remains to be seen whether Apple will proceed with the integration of OpenAI at the OS level.
