Search Continues For The Missing Plan Carrying Vice President, Saulos Chilima
The search for the missing plane carrying Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others is ongoing, with soldiers, police officers, and forest rangers combing the mountainous forests near Mzuzu, in northern Malawi. The plane disappeared on Monday morning while making a 45-minute flight from the capital, Lilongwe, to Mzuzu, about 230 miles to the north.
President Lazarus Chakwera has vowed that search operations will continue through the night and until the plane is found. He also mentioned that authorities had used telecommunications towers to track the last known position of the plane to a 10-kilometer (6-mile) radius in one of the plantations.
The U.S., the U.K., Norway, and Israel have offered assistance in the search operation and have provided “specialized technologies” to help find the plane sooner. The U.S. Embassy in Malawi has also offered the use of a Department of Defense small C-12 plane.
Vice President Chilima, 51, was on his way to represent the government at the burial of former cabinet minister Ralph Kasambara, who died three days ago. The plane also carried former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri and eight others.
This incident has raised concerns and prompted a significant search and rescue operation. The search continues as authorities and international partners work together to locate the missing plane and ensure the safety of those on board.
