The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the qualifying draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be held on 4 July in Johannesburg, South Africa. This draw will determine the groups for the 48 teams vying to qualify for the tournament, which will be hosted by Morocco in 2025.

The 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the finals. Morocco, as the host nation, is already guaranteed a spot in the finals but will participate in the draw to complete the group stage.

The CAF has yet to announce the specific dates for the 2025 AFCON finals, but they are expected to be in early 2026 due to scheduling conflicts with FIFA’s inaugural 32-team Club World Cup. CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba has previously mentioned that the scheduling is a “nightmare” and that they need to ensure the chosen dates are in the best interests of the players.

Qualifiers for the 2025 AFCON will take place in September, October, and November of this year. Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan have already advanced to the group stage after progressing through a preliminary round.

The draw will be conducted at the SuperSport studios in Johannesburg at 14:30 local time (15:30 Cairo time, 12:30 GMT). Representatives from CAF legends, participating teams, and the Local Organizing Committee for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will be in attendance.
