FG Declares Public Holiday For Eid-Ul-Adha
The Federal Government has officially declared Monday, June 17th, and Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. The declaration is aimed at allowing the Muslim Ummah and the general public to celebrate the significant religious festival of Eid-ul-Adha.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is a major Islamic holiday celebrated worldwide. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened and provided a ram to be sacrificed instead. The festival is marked by special prayers, feasts, and the exchange of gifts among family and friends.
The Minister of Interior, in his statement, congratulated the Muslim Ummah both at home and in the Diaspora on this occasion. He urged the Ummah to continue to imbibe the spirit of peace, kindness, and sacrifice, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him). He also encouraged the faithful to utilize this period to pray for the unity, prosperity, and stability of the nation.
The Federal Government assured the public that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians. While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to the nation’s children.
This declaration underscores the government’s recognition of the importance of religious observances in the country and its commitment to fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among the diverse religious and ethnic groups in Nigeria.
