NAFDAC Issues Warning on Storing Cooked Food in Refrigerator

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians, advising them to stop storing cooked food in the refrigerator for more than three days. The warning comes as a measure to prevent potential health risks associated with the consumption of stored food.

According to NAFDAC, storing cooked food in the refrigerator for extended periods can lead to the growth of bacteria, which can cause food poisoning. The agency recommends that cooked food should be consumed within three days or frozen for later consumption.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, emphasized the importance of adhering to this warning, stating that it is crucial for maintaining food safety and protecting public health. She advised Nigerians to be mindful of their food storage practices and to prioritize the consumption of fresh, safe food.

The agency’s warning is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and promote healthy eating habits among Nigerians. NAFDAC has been actively involved in regulating and controlling the manufacture, importation, exportation, advertisement, distribution, sale, and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, packaged water, and chemicals in Nigeria.

In addition to the warning on food storage, NAFDAC has also cautioned the public on the risks associated with the use of certain pesticides, such as Aluminum Phosphide 560TB. The agency has urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution in the storage and handling of such chemicals to prevent accidental poisoning.

As the regulatory body responsible for safeguarding the health of the nation, NAFDAC remains committed to leaving no stone unturned in its drive to rid the country of the menace of unwholesome food, poorly packaged water, and other substandard regulated products.
