Nnamdi Kanu Seeks Negotiation Amid Treason Trial

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), appeared in court on June 19, 2024, for his ongoing trial on charges of treasonable felony. During the proceedings, Kanu condemned all forms of violence in the South East region and expressed his desire for negotiation with the Federal Government of Nigeria. His trial has been adjourned to September 23 and 25, 2024, marking nearly four years since his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) without a trial. The case has sparked widespread discussion and calls for Kanu’s release, with many arguing that his continued detention is against the law and principles of equity.
