Local Government Elections Begin in Rivers State: Governor Fubara Takes Action

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the commencement of the process for conducting Local Government Elections in the state. The announcement was made while swearing in the caretaker committee chairmen on Wednesday. This step marks the beginning of preparations for the upcoming local government elections, which are expected to be held soon.

Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the media and the peace-loving citizens of the state for their ongoing support, urging everyone to remain law-abiding to ensure unity and progress in Rivers State.

The tenure of the 23 local government chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors expired on June 17, 2024, after three years of dedicated service to the state. Governor Fubara paid tribute to them for their sacrifices and commitment to public service, congratulating them on their successful completion of tenure.

In a statewide address, Governor Fubara directed Heads of Local Government Administration to immediately take charge of their respective councils. He stressed the need to uphold the Constitution and maintain law and order, ordering the heads of local government administration to serve with renewed vigour and await further directives.

Governor Fubara also directed an immediate audit of the accounts of the 23 local government councils in the state. He stated that it was important for Rivers people to know how the finances of the 23 local government councils were managed in the past three years. The governor demanded that the auditing process must be thorough and the report should be submitted within one month.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the well-being and progress of the state and its people. He reassured the people of the state of his administration’s unwavering dedication to providing infrastructural development, sound health care delivery, quality education, and an undiluted welfare package for all.
