LASTMA Impounds 40 Vehicles for Operating Illegal Garages in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has once again taken decisive action against illegal garages and parking by impounding 40 vehicles in various areas of Lagos. This operation, led by Kayode Odunuga, the head of enforcement at LASTMA, under the directives of Sola Giwa, the special adviser to the governor on transportation, targeted commercial and private vehicles operating in unauthorized garages and causing road obstructions in Oyingbo, Ijora, and Idumota.

Out of the 40 vehicles impounded, 25 were commercial vehicles, while 15 were private. These areas are known hotspots for traffic congestion due to the activities of illegal garages, which have been a persistent source of inconvenience for residents and commuters.

In a statement released by LASTMA, the agency emphasized that this impoundment exercise is part of a broader initiative by the Lagos State Government to enhance the efficiency of the city’s transportation network. Sola Giwa, the special adviser on transportation, confirmed that the operation will be sustained and extended to other parts of the city where illegal garages and related activities are prevalent.

LASTMA has also urged all vehicle owners and operators to adhere to the state’s traffic regulations and cooperate with authorities to avoid sanctions. The agency has assured the public that it will continue to ensure the free flow of traffic movement by scaling up its enforcement and clamping down on stubborn commercial buses and cab operators.

This latest action by LASTMA is a clear indication of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to maintaining law and order on the roads, ensuring that all traffic regulations are strictly enforced. The government has emphasized that it will not tolerate activities that disrupt public order and endanger the lives of citizens.

In conclusion, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s decision to impound 40 vehicles operating from illegal garages is a significant step towards restoring order and ensuring the free flow of traffic in the affected areas. It is hoped that this action will serve as a deterrent to other vehicle owners and operators who may be tempted to flout traffic regulations in the future.
