Nigeria Drawn in Group A for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024

The Nigerian Flamingos have been drawn in Group A for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024, which will be hosted by the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3, 2024. The draw took place at the Frey Antón de Montecinos monument in the Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo, on June 22, 2024.

Nigeria’s Group A includes the host nation, the Dominican Republic, alongside Ecuador and New Zealand. This group will see Nigeria face the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand in the group stage of the tournament.

The Flamingos secured their place in the tournament after defeating Liberia 6-1 on aggregate in the qualifiers. This will be Nigeria’s third appearance in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, having previously finished third in the 2022 edition held in India.

Group B features defending champions Spain, the USA, Korea Republic, and Colombia. Group C consists of Korea DPR, Mexico, Kenya, and England, while Group D includes Japan, Poland, Brazil, and Zambia.

The tournament will comprise 32 matches in total, with matches to be played in two host cities, Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo. The draw was overseen by FIFA Director of Tournaments Jaime Yarza, accompanied by Dominican athlete and mountaineer Thais Herrera and the Canada-born Mexico youth international Tatiana Flores.
