Political Turmoil in Rivers State: Governor Fubara Faces Insults and Criticism

The political landscape in Rivers State has been fraught with tension and conflict, with Governor Siminalayi Fubara facing insults and criticism from various quarters. The situation has escalated, with one local government chairperson, Samuel Nwanosike, publicly insulting the governor and calling him “foolish and naïve.”

Nwanosike, a known loyalist to former governor Nyesom Wike, accused Fubara of not achieving anything since taking office. He alleged that Fubara was being naive and had no knowledge of the people’s ordeals. This verbal attack comes amidst a face-off between Wike and Fubara over the control of political structures in the state.

The insults and criticism have not gone unnoticed by Governor Fubara, who expressed his disappointment and frustration over what he perceived as the highest insult to his office and the people of Rivers State. He stated that he has never been insulted as much as he was during this situation.

The political crisis in Rivers State has also led to the removal of Chidi Awuse as Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers by Governor Fubara. The governor accused Awuse of failing to steer the council’s affairs in the right direction and being unable to promote cordial relationships among members and with the state government.

Governor Fubara announced the appointment of Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, the Eze Ohna Apara, as the new Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers. This decision was made due to the “inactivity and the absence of effective leadership of the council under Eze Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse.”

The political fireworks between the two parties were ignited following the call by Rivers APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Okocha, for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state, citing the presence of a full-blown war. The ruling party faulted Wednesday’s allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party that the APC was planning to hijack the control of Rivers, describing the allegation as a figment of its imagination.

As the political crisis in Rivers State continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Governor Fubara will navigate the challenges and criticisms he faces. The situation highlights the complexities of political power struggles and the need for effective leadership and governance in the state.
