Rivers Crisis: Police Declare Ex-Militant Leader ‘General Asabuja’ Wanted

The Rivers State Police Command has declared Gabriel ‘General’ Asabuja, a former Niger Delta militant leader, wanted in connection with a viral video related to the ongoing crisis over the tenure of local government councils in the state. The video, which caused significant concern among residents and authorities, featured Asabuja issuing threats and expressing readiness to defend Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s position.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, stated that the video caused panic and that the police would not tolerate such behavior. The police have invited Asabuja to come forward and answer questions, but he has not responded. Disu emphasized that the police will take necessary action to address the situation.

The crisis in Rivers State centers around the tenure of local government council chairmen. Governor Fubara has refused to elongate their tenure and has instead sworn in new caretaker chairmen. This has led to tensions and confrontations between supporters of the governor and the former chairmen.
