Suspect in Port Harcourt Blast Arrested

The Rivers State Government has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the detonation of an explosive device near the state-owned Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

According to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the suspect was brought to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for treatment by his accomplices, who presented him as an accident victim. However, the medical personnel quickly recognized that the injuries did not match those from a road traffic accident but resembled blast injuries.

The suspect was apprehended after a young man was brought to the hospital with alleged injuries sustained in a road traffic accident. The medical personnel provided emergency care and promptly informed the Rivers State Government and the Commissioner for Police about the suspect’s presence in the facility.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that the suspect is currently under custody and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The incident occurred during a protest near the Presidential Hotel on the Port Harcourt Aba Expressway. The suspect, who was part of a group of protesters allegedly hired by former local government chairmen and cronies of the FCT Minister, accidentally detonated a dynamite, resulting in his injuries.

The Rivers State Government has launched a search for the other members of the group involved in the incident.

The arrest of the suspect is a significant development in the investigation into the blast, which caused panic and concern among residents and businesses in the area. The Rivers State Government has assured the public that it will continue to ensure the safety and security of the state.
