Rivers State Government Welcomes 1,771 NYSC Members with Total Support

In a grand gesture of support, the Rivers State Government has welcomed 1,771 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to the state. This marks a significant increase in the number of corps members posted to the state, reflecting the government’s commitment to the development and growth of the NYSC program.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in his address to the corps members, emphasized the importance of their role in nation-building and urged them to be disciplined, dedicated, and determined to excel in their service year. He assured them of the state government’s full support, promising to provide the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure a successful and fulfilling service experience.

The Rivers State Government has a track record of supporting the NYSC program. In 2016, the government approved a 100 percent increase in the monthly allowance of NYSC members deployed to the state, from N5,000 to N10,000. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of corps members and creating an enabling environment for them to thrive.

Furthermore, the Rivers State Government has been commended by the NYSC Director-General for its impressive support of the scheme. This recognition is a testament to the government’s dedication to providing the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure the success of the NYSC program in the state.

The NYSC members are expected to participate in various community development projects across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State. This includes a massive environmental sanitation exercise aimed at keeping the state clean and improving the overall health of citizens. The exercise will feature cleaning of the LG Council headquarters, major markets, and motor parks, as well as opening up blocked drainages, sweeping, cutting of grass, and proper evacuation and disposal of generated waste materials.

The Rivers State Government’s support for the NYSC program is a reflection of its commitment to the development and growth of the state. By welcoming 1,771 corps members and providing them with the necessary resources and infrastructure, the government is investing in the future of the state and the nation as a whole.
