NAFDAC has shut down four unregistered bakeries in Port Harcourt.

On July 3, 2024, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) took decisive action in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and quality of food products. The agency shut down four unregistered bakeries that were operating without the necessary approvals and standards.

The affected bakeries are He Reigns Bakery, Dvine Freedom bread, De Heroes Bakery, and The Lord’s Abundant Bakery. These establishments were found to be operating in violation of the regulatory standards set by NAFDAC, which are designed to protect consumers from substandard food products.

The closures were carried out by the NAFDAC Rivers State Office, which has been working to stamp out the prevalence of substandard bakeries in the state. The agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, emphasized the importance of adhering to the agency’s regulations to ensure the safety of the food supply.

“We are determined to stamp out the prevalence of substandard bakeries in Rivers State,” said Dr. Jimoh. “The agency will continue to take action against any bakery or food establishment that fails to comply with our regulations.”

The closures serve as a reminder to other businesses in the food industry to ensure that they are operating in compliance with the regulations set by NAFDAC. Consumers are also encouraged to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activities or products to the agency.

NAFDAC’s action is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and quality of food products in Nigeria. The agency has been working to strengthen its regulatory framework and enforcement capabilities to protect consumers from substandard products.
