Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reacted to the recent developments regarding the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Despite the Court of Appeal’s ruling that declared the seats of 25 lawmakers vacant, Governor Fubara has reaffirmed his support for the current Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo.

In a statement, Governor Fubara emphasized that the Court of Appeal’s decision did not nullify the actions taken by the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly, which have been implemented by his administration. He stated that Oko-Jumbo remains the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Governor Fubara’s stance aligns with the position of some political analysts who argue that the Court of Appeal’s ruling did not address the validity of the lawmakers’ defection from the PDP to the APC. They contend that the Court’s decision focused on the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court to determine the legality of the lawmakers’ defection, rather than the substance of the matter.

The Governor’s support for Oko-Jumbo is seen as a strategic move to maintain stability and continuity in the governance of Rivers State. By backing the current Speaker, Governor Fubara aims to ensure that the legislative agenda and policies of his administration are effectively carried out.

However, the political situation in Rivers State remains complex, with various factions and interests at play. The outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings and the response of the Federal High Court will be crucial in determining the final resolution of the leadership crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
