Lagos Governor Mourns Passing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly. The Governor’s condolences were conveyed in a statement released on Friday, July 26, 2024.

In his statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Iwuanyanwu as a respected elder statesman and detribalised Nigerian who contributed immensely to the Nigerian society, particularly in the Igbo community. He also acknowledged Iwuanyanwu’s role as a media proprietor and accomplished businessman, who provided job opportunities for many young Lagos residents in his media and other businesses.

“On behalf of my family, the Government and the people of Lagos State, I mourn the death of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu,” the Governor said. “As a media proprietor and accomplished businessman, he contributed his quota to the economy of Lagos State by providing job opportunities for many young Lagos residents in the media and other companies he established.”

The Governor went on to praise Iwuanyanwu’s philanthropic efforts, noting that he dedicated his life to the service of his community, state, and the country in different sectors. He also extended his condolences to the deceased’s wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, his children, friends, and associates, as well as the management and staff of Champion Newspaper and other businesses of the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

“He was a philanthropist who dedicated his life to the service of his community, state, and the country in different sectors,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said. “I pray for the repose of the soul of the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and pray that God grants the Ndigbo, the deceased family, friends, and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

The Governor’s message of condolence was also extended to the Ndigbo at home and abroad, as well as to the entire Igbo community. He emphasized that Iwuanyanwu’s death is a colossal loss to Nigeria, particularly the Igbo nation and the media industry.
