Day 6: Protesters in Port Harcourt Attack APC Secretariat, Destroy Billboards

Breaking News Png

On the sixth day of the ongoing nationwide protest against bad governance, protesters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, took their grievances to the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat. The protesters, numbering in the thousands, blocked the entire axis of the Federal Secretariat along Aba Road and set tyres ablaze. They also destroyed APC billboards and other signages in the area.

The protesters, who first converged on the Pleasure Park along Ava Road, later blocked a section of the road from the Hotel Presidential junction and set tyres ablaze while chanting and waving the Nigerian flag and palm fronds. Their actions came after accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of inciting the protesters by trying to stop people from participating in the protest.

The protest in Port Harcourt is part of a larger nationwide movement that has been ongoing for several days. The protesters have been calling for an end to bad governance and demanding that the government address the issues of hunger and economic hardship in the country.

The attack on the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt is not an isolated incident. Similar protests have been reported in other parts of the country, with protesters targeting government buildings and political party offices.

The situation in Port Harcourt remains tense, with a heavy police presence in the area. The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and his entourage, comprising over eight patrol vans and an armoured personnel carrier (APC), have been on the ground to pacify the protesters and restore order.

As the protest enters its sixth day, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the demands of the protesters. The situation in Port Harcourt and across the country is a reflection of the growing frustration among Nigerians over the state of the economy and the perceived failure of the government to address the issues that matter to the people.
