Los Angeles Prepares to Host the 2028 Summer Olympics
The City of Angels is gearing up to host the 2028 Summer Olympics, marking the third time LA has had the honor of staging the world’s biggest sporting event. The 2028 Games will take place from July 14 to July 30, with the Paralympic Games following from August 22 to September 3.
LA28 has announced that the event will be held across more than 80 existing venues, utilizing the city’s world-class sports infrastructure and avoiding the need to construct any new facilities. This approach not only makes the Games more sustainable but also enhances the experience for athletes and fans.
The Olympic and Paralympic opening ceremonies will be held at the legendary Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which was also the site of the ceremonies in 1932 and 1984. The Coliseum will share duties with the new NFL stadium in Inglewood, CA, as part of a “something old and something new” approach.
Other iconic venues in the city and nearby, such as the Staples Center (now known as the Crypto.com Arena), the new Inglewood stadium, and the Rose Bowl, will also host events. The dorms at UCLA are set to be the site of the Olympic Village.
The 2028 Games will feature over 50 sports, including six new additions: baseball, softball, lacrosse, cricket, breaking, and flag football. This will be the first time that no new venues will be built to host the Olympics, reflecting LA28’s commitment to sustainability and legacy.
As the countdown to the 2028 Games begins, Los Angeles is ready to welcome athletes and spectators from around the world, showcasing the city’s diverse culture, stunning landscapes, and world-class sports facilities. The 2028 Summer Olympics promise to be a celebration of athleticism, unity, and the enduring spirit of the Olympic Games.
