Alleged one chance criminal arrested in Port Harcourt by the police.
The police in Port Harcourt have recently arrested three individuals, including two women, suspected of involvement in a ‘one-chance’ robbery scheme. This operation took place around 9:00 p.m. on September 4, 2024, where the suspects were apprehended after a routine patrol by the Intelligence and Surveillance Unit spotted suspicious activity involving a purple Volkswagen Golf. The vehicle’s occupants’ behavior, including forcibly pushing someone out of the car upon police approach, led to a chase and subsequent interception under the bridge at Eleme Junction. During the arrest, one suspect attempted to escape and engaged in gunfire with the police, resulting in his fatal injury. The gang was noted for operating between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. daily for about three years, targeting unsuspecting passengers. The police are currently pursuing the remaining members of this gang. This incident reflects ongoing efforts by the Rivers State Police Command to curb ‘one-chance’ robberies, which have been a significant concern in the area.
