Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a charity trustee for a period of five years due to serious mismanagement of funds at Fashion for Relief, a charity she founded in 2005. The Charity Commission for England and Wales conducted an inquiry which revealed that only 8.5% of the charity’s expenditure between April 2016 and July 2022 went towards charitable grants. The investigation highlighted several instances of misuse of funds, notably spending €9,400 (£7,800) on a three-night stay at a five-star hotel in Cannes for Campbell, along with additional expenses on spa treatments, room service, and cigarettes.

This misconduct was deemed as not cost-effective or an appropriate use of charity resources by the Charity Commission. Furthermore, there was no evidence provided to support claims that such expenses were typically covered by donors, as claimed by the trustees. This ban prevents Campbell from holding any senior management role or being a trustee in any charity in England and Wales for the duration of her disqualification. The charity Fashion for Relief was subsequently dissolved, and some funds were recovered to protect further charitable activities.

This situation underscores the responsibilities and accountability expected from charity trustees, emphasizing that personal benefits from charity funds are unacceptable and subject to regulatory scrutiny.
