PDP Factional Leaders Appoint Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as Acting National Chairman
Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed has been appointed as the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by a faction of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
This decision was made following the suspension of the previous Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum, alongside other party officials. The appointment was announced to take effect immediately and is grounded in the provisions of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017. This move is part of an ongoing internal conflict within the PDP, with various factions maneuvering for control amidst criticisms and legal battles over leadership positions.
The faction that appointed Mohammed is led by Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, indicating a significant power shift within the party’s hierarchy. This development comes ahead of a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for October 24, 2024, where further decisions pivotal to the party’s direction might be discussed.
This event underscores the deepening crisis within the PDP, where internal disagreements over leadership and party management have led to public factional disputes, potentially affecting the party’s unity and effectiveness in national politics.
