GOVERNOR FUBARA’S REFUSAL TO INVESTIGATE
This development comes after Governor Fubara refused to include the arson attack on the APC secretariat in the Commission of Inquiry he constituted to investigate the burning down of some local government secretariats. The APC has accused Governor Fubara of attempting to cover up the incident and has vowed to uncover the truth.
“We are determined to get to the bottom of this matter,” said Tony Okocha, the Rivers APC chairman. “We will not allow Governor Fubara to sweep this incident under the carpet. We demand justice for our party members and supporters who were affected by this senseless act of violence.”
REACTIONS FROM STAKEHOLDERS
The setting up of the committee has been welcomed by stakeholders in the state. “This is a step in the right direction,” said Chief Emeka Beke, a former commissioner in the state. “We must get to the bottom of this incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.”
The Rivers APC has also called on the security agencies to cooperate with the committee and provide them with the necessary support to carry out their investigation.
CONCLUSION
The setting up of the committee by the Tony Okocha-led Rivers APC is a welcome development. It shows that the party is determined to get to the bottom of the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The committee’s findings will be eagerly awaited, and it is hoped that it will lead to a more peaceful and stable political environment in the state.
