This victory marks Real Madrid’s first win in the new-look FIFA Intercontinental Cup, a competition that replaces the FIFA Club World Cup.
Mbappe’s performance was particularly impressive, as he scored his 300th club goal and became the third player to score in each of his first two finals for Real Madrid across all competitions in the last 10 years.
