LIVERPOOL THRASH WEST HAM 5-0 TO SOLIDIFY PREMIER LEAGUE LEAD
Liverpool dominated West Ham United with a resounding 5-0 win at the London Stadium, solidifying their position as leaders of the Premier League. The Reds produced a dominant performance, with Mohamed Salah orchestrating the victory with a goal and two assists.
The match got off to a flying start, with Liverpool creating several scoring opportunities in the opening 20 minutes. West Ham’s defense was put to the test, but they managed to hold firm until the 30th minute.
That’s when Luis Diaz opened the scoring, capitalizing on a deflection to give Liverpool a deserved lead. The Colombian forward’s goal was his fifth of the season, and it marked a turning point in the match.
Liverpool’s second goal came just five minutes later, courtesy of a stunning piece of play from Salah. The Egyptian forward beat several West Ham defenders before setting up Cody Gakpo, who slotted the ball past Lukasz Fabianski.
Salah then scored his 20th goal of the season just before halftime, taking a touch and firing into the bottom corner. The goal marked a remarkable milestone for Salah, who has now scored 20 or more goals in five consecutive seasons.
In the second half, Liverpool continued to dominate, creating several scoring opportunities. Trent Alexander-Arnold netted in the 54th minute, his long-range effort deflecting in off Max Kilman.
Diogo Jota completed the rout late on, scoring his second goal in five substitute appearances since his return from injury. The Portuguese forward’s goal marked a perfect end to 2024 for Liverpool, who now have 45 points from 18 games in the Premier League.
“We’re delighted with the win and the performance,” said Liverpool manager Arne Slot. “The lads played some fantastic football, and we’re pleased to have ended the year on a high note.”
West Ham, on the other hand, had a disappointing end to the year, with this loss leaving them in 13th place with 23 points. Mohamed Kudus struck the foot of the post twice, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the game.
“We’re disappointed with the result, but we’ll learn from it and move on,” said West Ham manager David Moyes. “We’ll regroup and prepare for our next match.”
Liverpool’s next match is against Manchester United at Anfield on January 5, while West Ham will look to bounce back from this defeat in their upcoming match.
