ATALANTA SUFFERS FIRST LOSS IN 2025 AGAINST INTER MILAN
Atalanta’s impressive winning streak came to an end as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Inter Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final. The match took place on January 2, 2025, at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Denzel Dumfries was the hero for Inter Milan, scoring two goals in the 49th and 61st minutes to secure the win. The Dutch winger’s strikes were enough to hand Atalanta their first loss in 2025.
Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, who had been in great form, couldn’t replicate his previous performances, and the team struggled to create scoring opportunities. The loss marks a disappointing start to 2025 for Atalanta, who had been on an impressive eleven-game winning streak before drawing their last match of 2024 against Lazio.
“We didn’t play our best game, and we paid the price,” said Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini. “We’ll have to regroup and focus on our next match.”
Inter Milan’s win sets up a thrilling Supercoppa Italiana final against either AC Milan or Juventus. The Nerazzurri will be looking to add another trophy to their cabinet, and this win will give them a much-needed boost of confidence.
“We played a great game, and we deserved the win,” said Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi. “We’ll enjoy this victory, but we know we have another tough match ahead of us.”
The loss for Atalanta will be a wake-up call, and they’ll need to bounce back quickly to keep their title hopes alive. With a busy schedule ahead, Gasperini’s team will need to regroup and refocus if they want to achieve their goals.
