Club Brugge secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League knockout phase. The match, played at Jan Breydel Stadium in Bruges, Belgium, saw Club Brugge take the lead through Ferran Jutglà’s 15th-minute goal, assisted by Clinton Mata.

The goal was a result of a well-executed counter-attack, with Mata providing a precise pass to Jutglà, who slotted the ball past Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello.

Atalanta equalized in the 41st minute, thanks to Mario Pašalić’s goal, assisted by Davide Zappacosta. The score remained 1-1 at halftime, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.

In the second half, Club Brugge was awarded a penalty in the 90+4 minute, after Atalanta’s Merih Demiral was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Gustav Nilsson stepped up to take the penalty and converted it with ease, sealing the 2-1 win for the home team.

This victory marks a significant upset, as Atalanta was favored to win, with odds of +135, while Club Brugge was listed at +220. The win also highlights Club Brugge’s strong home record in the Champions League, having remained unbeaten in their last three UCL fixtures at home.

Club Brugge’s coach, Scott Parker, praised his team’s resilience and determination. “We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we showed great character and spirit to come out on top,” he said.

Atalanta’s coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, was disappointed with the result but acknowledged that Club Brugge deserved the win. “We had our chances, but we didn’t take them. Club Brugge played well and deserved the victory,” he said.

The win puts Club Brugge in a strong position to advance to the next round of the Champions League. They will face Atalanta again in the return leg, with the Italian side looking to overturn the deficit.
