Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is speaking out against the booing of Taylor Swift during the Super Bowl, saying he just doesn’t get why she was receiving hate.
When Swift was shown on the Jumbotron, the crowd erupted in boos, which Barkley found puzzling. He pointed out that Swift was simply supporting her significant other, Travis Kelce, and has actually helped grow the game’s popularity.
“I remember that they showed her on the Jumbotron and she got booed,” Barkley said in an interview. “I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there. She’s there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger. We’re trying to expand the game and her being a part of it’s only helping that, so I don’t get the slack that she’s getting.”
Barkley emphasized that the NFL is trying to expand its reach, and Swift’s involvement is only helping that effort. Since Swift started attending Chiefs games, the NFL has seen a significant increase in female teenage viewership and women aged 18-24 tuning in. Her presence has even brought in an estimated $634 million in brand value for the league.
“It’s crazy to me that people are booing her,” Barkley said. “She’s not hurting anyone. She’s just supporting her boyfriend and enjoying the game. I think it’s cool that she’s a part of it.”
Some fans might have booed Swift because she’s dating a player from the opposing team, or maybe because she’s a Pennsylvania native who’s now associated with the Chiefs. However, Barkley’s message is clear: Swift’s involvement in the NFL is a positive thing, and she shouldn’t be receiving hate.
“I think people should just relax and enjoy the game,” Barkley said. “Taylor Swift is not hurting anyone. She’s just trying to support her boyfriend and have a good time.”
Barkley’s comments are a breath of fresh air in a sports world that can sometimes be overly critical. By speaking out in support of Swift, he’s showing that he values kindness and respect – and that’s something we can all get behind.
