Rivers Assembly Petitions DSS to Investigate Chief Judge Over Alleged Age Falsification

The Rivers State House of Assembly has taken a significant step by petitioning the Department of State Service (DSS) to investigate the allegation of age falsification leveled against the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Hon. Justice Simeon Amadi.
Background of the Allegation
The allegation of age falsification against Hon. Justice Amadi was brought to the attention of the House by the Leader, Hon. Major Jack, during the 135th Legislative Sitting on Thursday. Hon. Jack presented a document to the House, which alleged that Hon. Justice Amadi had falsified his age in the civil service.
House Resolution
After deliberating on the matter, the Members of the House resolved to write to the DSS to investigate the allegation. The House noted that falsification is a serious offense, but emphasized that the allegation must first be proven. The Members urged relevant security agencies to assist the House in investigating the allegation.
Speaker’s Comment
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, commented on the matter, stating that the House is empowered to conduct investigations by the provisions of Section 128 of the Constitution. However, he noted that the Governor of the State has barred all heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies from appearing before the House or assisting the House in the conduct of investigations.
Call for DSS Investigation
In light of this, the House is calling on the DSS to institute an investigation into the alleged age falsification by the Chief Judge. The aim of the investigation is to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of the allegation, which will then be forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC).
House Vote
The Speaker put the question to the House, and the Members voted in the affirmative, calling on the DSS to investigate the Hon. Chief Judge.
Committee Reports
In another development, the Speaker directed all Committees to submit their reports to the House before the House proceeds on recess. He specifically mentioned the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions.
Conclusion
The Rivers State House of Assembly’s decision to petition the DSS to investigate the alleged age falsification by the Chief Judge of Rivers State is a significant step towards ensuring accountability and transparency in the state’s judiciary. The outcome of the investigation will be closely watched by all stakeholders.
